This original Balouch rug was created by the people of the Balouch tribe in what is now, southern Iran. There is no distinct pattern or design that can be attributed to the Baluchi, unless it is the large tree-of-life motifs which they weave in a distinctive manner. Bilochi rugs are woven with dark colours extracted from natural dyes and the wool used is mostly sheared from the tribes own livestock. Some of the older bilochs are very finely woven and are called kagaz in Urdu, which is translated as paper. This usually speaks of the high quality of the carpet and suggests that it is fine enough to be folded like paper.
